Game Business for Elementary (Grades 1-5) ESTEAM® Design Challenge Kits
Game Business for Elementary (Grades 1-5) ESTEAM® Design Challenge Kits
From Players to Product Creators
The Game Business challenge invites elementary students to step behind the scenes of the gaming industry. Instead of just playing, students become "Game Founders," using the design thinking process to brainstorm, prototype, and pitch a brand-new game. Whether they are building a physical board game out of craft materials or wireframing a new mobile app, students learn that a great product is a mix of fun mechanics and a smart business plan.
What’s Inside Your Challenge Box?
Everything you need to lead a classroom of up to 30 students through a 30 mins to 2+ hours interactive "startup" experience:
- 15 Pre-made Material Bags: Individual kits packed with versatile supplies (pipe cleaners, foil, craft sticks, etc.) to build 3D game prototypes.
- App Design Graphic Organizers: Specialized templates to help young students visualize their game as a digital product.
- Easy to use Facilitator Guide: Step-by-step instructions and discussion prompts that bridge the gap between "play" and "entrepreneurship."
- 4 Extension Activities: Tools to expand the challenge into market research, feedback loops, revenue generation, and business modeling.
- 12 Entrepreneurial Mindset Posters: Vibrant visuals to keep students focused on grit, empathy, and risk-taking.
- 1 Deck of Mindset Cards: Quick prompts to reinforce entrepreneurial habits during the design process.
Core Creative Adventures:
- Empathize & Ideate: Identifying what makes a game "fun" and brainstorming unique themes or rules that players will love.
- Rapid Physical Prototyping: Building a 3D model of a new game board, character, or physical component using "maker" materials.
- Digital App Design: Using graphic organizers to map out how a player would navigate an online version of their game.
- The Pitch & Iterate: Presenting the game to "investors" (classmates), gathering feedback, and making quick improvements to the design.
Transformative Building Blocks for Early Learners:
✓ Creative Engineering: Learning to use simple resources to solve complex design problems.
✓ Logical Thinking: Developing the "rules of play" and understanding cause-and-effect in game mechanics.
✓ Persuasive Communication: Practicing the art of the pitch to explain why their game is worth playing.
✓ Entrepreneurial Foundations: Discovering how a creative idea can grow into a real business model.
